Wheat Pool
One of the largest buildings on the waterfront is the Saskatchewan
Wheat Pool grain terminal. The terminal collects grain grown on
the prairies for
distribution to world markets. Grains such as wheat, canola, barley,
flaxseed, feed barley, grain screening pellets and dried peas arrive
by train and are stored in the large silos before loading on ships
destined
for locations around the world. Saskatchewan Wheat Pool exports
80 per cent of the grains and oilseeds that are grown on the Prairies.

Founded in 1924, Saskatchewan Wheat Pool is one of Western Canada's
oldest grain handling companies. Headquartered in Regina, Saskatchewan,
the Pool uses an extensive network of 43 high-throughput grain terminals,
100 retail agri-products locations and 11 seed cleaning and specialty
plants to collect, transport and market grain products in North
America and around the world. Using their modern and efficient system
they can load a 100-car unit train in just 12 hours - a fraction
of the time required to load the same amount of grain through conventional
facilities.
