Opened
in 1969, Neptune Bulk Terminals (Canada) Ltd.
is now the largest multi-commodity bulk handling facility on the
West Coast. Annual shipping volumes of Coal, Potash, Fertilizers,
Grain Products, Canola Oil and inbound Phosphate Rock have exceeded
11 million tonnes and the Terminal is capable of over 15 million
tonnes annually.
Located on the north shore of the Port of Vancouver's inner harbour,
Neptune sits on a 71 acre site and can handle up to three ships
at one time, each loading a different product. Neptune recieves
and ships all of it's products by rail and operates it's own site
railway complete with 4 engines. Up to 450 railcars can be handled
on the site during a normal working shift.

In
May 2001, the Terminal completed a $ 17 million conversion of Berth
# 3 to handle outbound product. The goal is to provide additional
berth availablity to grain and fertilizer ships. The Terminal specializes
in the high speed loading of ships using conveyor belts capable of
delivering up to 3,500 tonnes per hour of cargo.
In addition to the operating capability, Neptune is committed to its
people, community and the environment. Neptune's unionized workforce
and management staff numbers over 235 people and a large number of
employees live and work in this community. Neptune has a policy of
using local suppliers. Environmentally, Neptune has since 1981 spent
several million dollars on "state of the art" environmental systems
that will allow the Terminal to operate sensitively and sustainably
into the future.
