Constructed in 1979, this terminal is one
of the most modern and largest woodchip handling facilities in the
world, with capacity of about 2 million tonnes per year. The ship
berth can handle vessels up to 265 metres long. Chips are loaded under
pneumatic pressure at a rate of up to 1200 short tons per hour, with
even the largest vessel normally loaded within a 24 hour period. Storage
capacity of the terminal is about 240,000 tonnes.
Chips arrive by rail car, truck or barge. Conveyor belts move chips
to a transfer tower where they are screened for size, passing on to
the storage piles ready for loading on board ship. |
